County Council ElectionsCounty elections are held every four years. The last one was May 2005 and the next will be May 2009. If councillor die or resign within the four years a by-election is held. County By-electionsBy-elections 2008Kidlington & Yarnton Conservative Councillor Maureen Hastings resigned from the County Council on 6th March 2008. A by-election was held on 1st May. Con 2921 Green 321 Lab 675 LD 1681 Conservative hold The Liberal Democrat candidate is Suzanne Wilson-Higgins. Liberal Democrat County Councillor Jim Moley died on 11th January 2008. He had been on the Council for 11 years. Liberal Democrat County Councillor Bill Bradshaw resigned due to pressure of work on 23rd January 2008. He had been on the Council for 15 years. The by-elections were held on 13rd March. The Lib Dems won Grove & Wantage and the Independent, Lynda Atkins, who was being supported by the Lib Dems, won Wallingford. He had been on the Council two years. The Conservatives held the seat in the by-election on 21st June with 934 votes (Lib Dem 348, Labour 102). By-elections 2006Liberal Democrat Harry Wyatt resigned as the County Councillor for Eynsham on 20th March 2006, due to ill-health. He had been a County Councillor for 13 years. The Conservatives won the by-election on 4th May, with 1652 votes, to the Liberal Democrat candidate's 1034 (Green 254, Labour 176). On the same day, Conservative Rosemary Higham resigned as the County Councillor for Banbury Grimsbury and Castle, also due to ill-health. She had been on the County Council for one year. The Conservatives held this seat in the by-election on 4th May. The results were: Conservative 880, Labour 488 and Liberal Demcrats 340. County Council Elections 2005The last County Council election was held in May 2005, concurrently with the general election. The make up of the Council after the election is: 43 Conservatives (26); 17 Liberal Democrats (18); 9 Labour (24); 5 Greens (2) - total 74 councillors (70).
