Concern Over School Arson Attacks

1.37.54pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 16th Jun 2006

Liberal Democrat County Councillor Jean Fooks is raising concerns about arson attacks on school premises at next week's Council meeting. She said, "There have been several of these attacks recently, and it is very worrying. The effect is disruptive and costly, and both teachers and children are demoralised when their school environment and equipment is damaged.

"Sprinkler systems may not always be the answer, but at least schools should be fitted with automatic alarms linked straight to the Fire Service. Alerting the Fire and Rescue Service early, so they can get to schools as soon as possible, will minimise the damage. I am asking Council to consider advising that schools fit alarms and, in major rebuilds, automatic sprinklers."
