Wantage Councillors Defend Historic Ridgeway

4.33.16pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 19th Jul 2005

Cllrs Zoé Patrick and Jim Moley, Liberal Democrat County Councillors for Grove & Wantage support proposals to defend the Historic Ridgeway against motorized traffic (except farm vehicles for access) during winter months, put before the County Council's Cabinet today.

As councillors representing a ward through which the Ridgeway passes, Zoé and Jim say, "This important Green Road passes through the south of our ward and is an ancient way through beautiful scenery. It should be defended for continuous horse riding, walking and cycling. Motorised traffic during the winter has stopped these activities. We welcome a ban on winter use by vehicles, other than for purposes of access, so that people can enjoy the peaceful surroundings."

The ban was agreed by the Cabinet.
