Budget Cuts - Bit Late?

Written by Cllr Jean Fooks on Mon 27th Jul 2009

With the recession deepening, the County Council, like everyone else, clearly needs to be preparing for hard times ahead.

Performance not up to scratch

Transport & Traffic

Written by Cllrs Chris Wise & Janet Godden and published in LINK - community newsletter on Sun 1st Mar 2009

It is good to be able to report recent statistics which show Oxfordshire is the shire county with the highest rate of bus use per head in England. This is surprising given the relative affluence of the population, the degree of car ownership and the rural nature of much of the county. In addition, the County has an encouragingly low proportion of children being taken to school by car.

Incinerator health assessment

Written by Jean Fooks on Fri 23rd Jan 2009

No-one disagrees with the pressing need to reduce waste sent to landfill to avoid hefty fines from the government. More waste could and should be recycled. The County Council invited bids for disposal of the residual waste more than four years ago; the only technologies offered were energy-from-waste, or incineration.

We support Oxford Centre pedestrianisation

Written by Cllr Roz Smith on Fri 23rd Jan 2009

Cllr Hudspeth, Conservative Cabinet member for Transport, asks if Liberal Democrats agree with the principle of making Oxford a more pedestrian friendly city. Written by Cllr Lesley Legge on Fri 23rd Jan 2009

City Schools - Not Enough Places

Written by Cllrs Dermot Roaf & Jean Fooks on Thu 27th Nov 2008

Janet Tomlinson, Director of Children's Services, and Cllr Michael Waine, Cabinet Member for Schools Improvement, claim that "Whatever happens, there will always be a school place for every child who needs one". But in North Oxford there is a four-year old who has been offered a place at a City school more than two miles away - but no free transport (the child is too young) and no direct bus service for her car-less parent to take her to school.

Transform Oxford?

Written by Cllr Roz Smith - Transport spokesperson, Oxfordshire County Lib Dems - and Cllr David Rundle - Leader, Oxford City Lib Dems on Sun 5th Oct 2008

So the Conservatives are planning to 'Transform Oxford', but at what cost environmentally and financially? The plans look as if they were worked out on the back of an envelope!

The shape of the future - Community-led planning

Written by Cllrs Chris Wise & Janet Godden and published in LINK - local community newsletter on Wed 1st Oct 2008

In Oxfordshire, more communities than ever are involved in shaping their own future by developing parish, market town or neighbourhood action plans.
