The Liberal Democrats are the official opposition to the Conservative-run Council. There was a vacancy on the County Council, and a by-election was held on 1st May 2008. The Conservatives held this seat. More information about this by-election, the last election in 2005 and all other by-elections since 2005 can be found on the election page. There are no elections in Vale of White Horse District or South Oxfordshire District until May 2011. The next County Council election is likely to be June 2009, to coincide with the European Parliament election (the Government are currently consulting on moving the County elections to this date). Please go to the local party websites to find out more details about the May 2008 election. Oxford City is divided between two constituencies - Oxford West & Abingdon and Oxford East.
