At today's County Cabinet meeting, the Conservative administration ignored a request from the Liberal Democrats to allow local councillors to attend meetings of the former Steering Group for Headington and Marston Transport. Instead, they decreed that the group was no longer necessary.

Opposition Groups on Oxfordshire County Council today joined forces to nominate opposition Chairs to the County's scrutiny committees. Liberal Democrat Chairs were proposed for the Children's Services, Adult Services and Growth & Infrastructure Scrutiny Committees, and Labour Chairs for the Strategy & Partnerships and Safer & Stronger Communities Scrutiny Committees. However, the Conservative majority elected Conservative Chairmen and Vice Chairmen for all five Scrutiny Committees.

Oxfordshire County Conservatives have broken the long-established tradition of sharing the non-political positions of Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Council amongst the various groups in turn. This year would have been the turn of the Lib Dem opposition, but instead Conservatives have been elected as both Chairman and Vice Chairman. Further to this, the Conservatives announced that they will keep these positions for the next four years.
